Cartilage lesions of the knee

Cartilage lesions affect young people with athletic activities and are usually caused either by single or repeated injuries or by osteochondritis. Their severity depends on the magnitude of the damage.

Cartilage lesions cause early appearance of knee osteoarthritis in younger people. In recent years techniques for their treatment have been introduced, while until recently they were considered untreatable.

The usual method is to obtain by a special technique small osteochondral pieces of healthy cartilage from a non-load-bearing surface of the same knee and implant them in the damaged area, all in a single surgical intervention. The results, as shown in publications in scientific journals are very good.
