The Clinic
Dr. Ioannis Tsarouhas sees patients at four locations, so that they do not need to travel far for the first assessment or for follow-up after surgery: in Athens (101 Vasilissis Sofias Avenue), in Petroupoli (1 Agias Triados Street), in Chania (18 Eleftherias Street, Pasakaki) and in Heraklion, Crete (49 Kyrillou Loukareos Street).

Your visit
What to expect at the first appointment
-
01
What the first appointment includes
The first visit begins with a detailed history: when the pain started, exactly where it is felt, what makes it worse, how it affects sleep and daily life, and which treatments have already been tried. A full clinical examination of the joint and the neighbouring areas follows, because hip pain can originate in the lower back and knee pain in the hip. The imaging you already have is then reviewed, or the examinations that are needed are requested.

02
What to bring with you
It is helpful to bring every previous X-ray, MRI or CT scan, ideally in digital form as well, the reports of your examinations, the list of medication you take and any opinions from other doctors. If you have already had surgery on the same joint, the operative note and the details of the implants used are particularly important.

03
Planning your treatment
At the end of the visit all the options are discussed, conservative and surgical, with their advantages and disadvantages and with realistic recovery timelines. Not every patient needs surgery: in many cases the right physiotherapy, weight loss, activity modification or a targeted injection provide relief for years. When surgery is indicated, the technique, the length of hospital stay, the rehabilitation and the cost are explained in detail.
To book an appointment you can contact us or request a second opinion by sending us your imaging.
